Tasmanian Euthanasia Bill Voted Down

 

Tasmanian euthanasia bill voted down, Nov. 4, 2009.

 

Tasmania's Parliament has voted down a bill giving terminally ill people the right to end their lives.

The Greens leader, Nick McKim, brought forward his Dying with Dignity private members bill for debate [today].

Despite MPs being allowed a conscience vote, they voted largely along party lines.

 

 
 

 

All Tasmanian Greens members supported the motion, while all Liberal members opposed it.

The bill was defeated 16 votes to seven.
