An amazing result – a private member’s bill with a Liberal government. Special praise should be given to independent MLC Mike Gaffney, and sisters Jacqui and Nat Gray, who worked tirelessly in recent years to make this possible.

This would provide for around 39% of Australians, or 59% if, as expected, Queensland follows.

It will be interesting to see what the arguments are for each State having different legislation.

DWDV Board Member and VAD provider, Dr. Cam McLaren was invited down to the Tasmanian Legislative Council on Tuesday evening, March 23, to witness the passage of Mike Gaffney’s End of Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Bill.  Cam, and fellow Board Member Dr. Nick Carr, had both been involved in many informative discussions with Tasmanian MP’s generously offering their time and wise counsel during the parliamentary debate.
